This
month, the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
published on their website a list of 54 nursing homes
considered to be the worst in the Nation. So as to
encourage better care from within the targeted nursing
homes, CMS has designated 120 nursing homes as "special
focus facilities". Being labeled as such, the nursing
homes must be inspected twice a year, rather than the
standard annual inspection that the 16,000 plus nursing
homes in the U.S. are required to have.
