September 4, 2010 - After being in storage approximately 24 years, one environmentalist is traveling from Vermont to the White House in order to return a rooftop solar panel that until 1986 probably had one of the best views in Washington.
Rooftop solar panels have long been a leading way to conserve energy, many people are now wondering why panels were ever removed during Ronald Reagan’s second term. Look the subject up online and you will find a ton of excuses why. The return of at least one solar panel will certain make Jimmy Carter happy. The Carter administration is when solar panels first made their way to the White House.
President Obama has lobbied for White House solar energy in the past and has expressed interest in living as green as possible at the White House. After all, rooftop solar panels would look great from the existing organic White House garden don’t you think.
Congressional set backs are most likely to blame for the delay in President Obama’s wish to install solar panels once again (and hopefully for good) at the White House. In any case, climate change author Bill McKibben is on a mission to return high efficiency solar panels (or at least one) to Washington’s most famous home address.

McKibben is set to arrive in the nation’s capital with a handful of green living advocates in on September 7. This is a grand gesture to deliver the used solar panel is sure to turn some heads and open some eyes. One cannot imagine how installing solar panels at the White House could be a bad idea. Maybe Jimmy Carter, who created solar panel installation tax breaks, has a few words of advice.
