Idealist.org - Home for Activists and Non-Profit
Resources
October

2007 -
Idealist.org is the flagship website for non-profit group
Action Without Borders, which was founded in 1995. When it comes to bringing
"idealist" non-profit groups together and giving these groups a vehicle to carry
out their mission and spread their message, I believe that no other website has
done a more effective job than Idealist.org.
If you pay a visit to their website, you will see what I
mean. Idealist.org is essentially a vast resource for people looking to make a
positive impact in the world, whether that's through volunteering, finding a
worthwhile job or joining another idealist group. With a focus on education and
human rights, Idealist.org serves to connect people with other people looking to
make a positive difference in the world. You could
even say they are even helping connect entire grassroots movements with other
grassroots movements, which is a very powerful and needed undertaking if you ask
me.
The way it works is you can sign up for a free
account with your email address. After you register, you can then go into your
personal control panel and select what type of email alerts you would like to
receive. If you don't know, then you can search through the various categories
to find what inspires you. Ever wanted to get a heads-up on local benefits to
end poverty? Perhaps you are looking to volunteer at an organization committed
to cleaning up the environment? The options and opportunities to make a
difference are practically endless.
Once you are signed up and have developed your profile,
you can start to meet other people, read posts organized by categories, such as
Internships, Consultants, Volunteers, Speakers, Campaigns, Nonprofit Jobs,
Volunteer Organizations, etc. (you get the idea). Considering its size,
Idealist.org reminds me of Craig's List - buy way better! As of writing this, over
57,000 non-profits from over 180 countries have signed up and created profiles
on Idealist.org. What are you waiting for then? That's a lot of friends to make
and groups you need
to check out! Visit
Idealist.org.
