GREEN TIP
OF THE MONTH: Recycling to the Max
Lots of
people are committed to recycling their waste -
especially those common food containers bought week
after week at the grocery store. However, most people do
not realize they could be recycling even more! When it
comes to metal, glass and plastic, there is lots of
recycling to be done. Although not every recycling
center accepts the same recyclables, here is a list of
what is and is not commonly accepted: Regarding all
types of metal, cans, aluminum foil, wire hangers, pots
and pans, metal furniture (file cabinets) and appliances
can be recycled. As for cans, just about everything you
can think of is recyclable, including pet food cans,
tuna cans, soup cans, aerosol cans and empty paint cans.
Regarding glass, only bottles and jugs can be recycled
(do not recycle broken drinking glasses or mirrors).
Regarding plastic, only plastic bottles and jugs, such
as syrup bottles and juice containers can be recycled.
Unfortunately, common plastic products like yogurt cups
plastic cups, deli containers and plastic toys are not
generally accepted (This could change in the near
future). Lastly, remember to recycle all your beverage
containers, including milk jugs (paper and plastic),
juice boxes and orange juice cartons.
